Windsor is a town in Bertie County, North Carolina, United States. The population was 3,630 at the 2010 census, up from 2,283 in 2000. The land was historically the home of the Tuscarora people. In 2006, the State of North Carolina Department of Public Safety opened the Bertie Correctional Institution on Cooper Hill Road near Windsor. The new prisoners contributed to the sudden growth in Windsor's population between the 2000 and 2010 census. In the early morning hours of August 4, 2020, an EF3 tornado spawned by Hurricane Isaias struck areas just outside of Windsor. 2 people were killed and 14 others were injured. The tornado would the strongest tropical cyclone spawned tornado since 2005. Windsor is a notable Inner Banks kayaking destination. History
Windsor is the primary city name, but also Askewville are acceptable city names or spellings. The official name is Windsor, North Carolina. The land was historically the home of the Tuscarora people. Today, there are TusCarora residents living in the village of Tandequemuc, now called Merry Hill. Bertie County Courthouse, Bertie Memorial Hospital, Elmwood, Freeman Hotel, Hope Plantation, Jordan House, King House, Liberty Hall, Rosefield, and Windsor Historic District are listed on the National Register of Historic Places. An EF3 tornado spawned by Hurricane Isaias struck areas just outside of Windsor. The twister obliterated 12 mobile homes within a mobile home park outside of town, and flattened another poorly built house. The tornado killed 2 people and injured 14 others. It would the strongest tropical cyclone spawned tornado since 2005. Governor Roy Cooper toured the damage area in the days following the event. The storm was the strongest to hit the state since Hurricane Katrina in 2005. The damage was estimated to be in excess of $100 million. It was the worst tornado to hit North Carolina since Hurricane Ike in October of that year. The area was devastated by the storm and the death toll is expected to reach at least two. The town of Windsor was once home to the TusCarra people, who lived in a village called TandEquemuc. The village is now a suburb of Windsor, North Carolina, and the town has a population of about 2,000 people. It is located on the banks of the Little River River, which runs through the town of Bertie. The community was once known as "Tuscarora Town".

The town has a number of parks and recreation facilities, including a Mini Zoo and a tennis court. The Town also has a Disk Golf Course and a Fishing Piers and Small Boat Launch and Trail for anglers to use. It is located near the town of Tandequemuc, which is home to the village of T andequemuca Longhouse and the Tandecarora village of Tuscarora, which has a Longhouse. The city also has several parks, includingivermon Park and Mini Zoo, and a Tennis Courts and Rotary Park. It has a population of around 3,000 people, and is located on the banks of the Cashie river, which runs through the town's downtown area.

It is the only town in the state to be named after a former president, Abraham Lincoln, who died in office in 1861. It was named after the town of Windsor, New Mexico, where Lincoln was born. The city's name is derived from the town's name, Windsor, which means "beautiful place" or "wonderful place" in English. It also means "home" in Spanish, "welcome" and "sir" in German. It has a history dating back to the 17th century, when it was known as "Windsore" and later as "Warnsor" It is now known as the "Town of Windsor" in New Mexico and the "City of Windsor", which was named for the town where it was first established in 17th Century. The current mayor of the town is Robert L. Linn, who was born in 1788. He was elected to office in 1894. He served as mayor from 1998 to 2002, and was re-elected in 2008. He is currently serving as mayor of Windsor.

In 2006, the State of North Carolina Department of Public Safety opened the Bertie Correctional Institution on Cooper Hill Road near Windsor. BCI is a close-security prison with the capacity to house up to 1,504 inmates. The new prisoners contributed to the sudden growth in Windsor's population between the 2000 and 2010 census. As of the 2020 United States census, the town had a population of 3,582 people, 1,018 households and 641 families. The racial makeup of the town was 52.96% African American, 45.42% White, 20.35% Native American, 2.66% Asian, 0.04% Pacific Islander, and 0.44% from two or more races. Hispanic or Latino of any race were 0.35%. The town's median income was $25,256, and the median income for a family was $34,107. About 19.9% of families and 25.8% of the population were below the poverty line, including 35.1% of those under age 18 and25.4% ofThose age 65 or over. The average household size was 2.33 and the average family size was2.96. The median age was 42 years. For every 100 females, there are 75.9 males. The per capita income for the town is $18,006.
Education
Bertie High School is located in the town of Bertie, South Dakota. Bertie is home to a number of high schools and college preparatory schools. The town is also home to the Heritage Collegiate Academy, a boarding school for high school and college students. It is also the home of the Bertie School of Science and Technology, a magnet school for students with an interest in science and math. The school also has a STEM program for students who want to learn about science and technology. It also has an early college program for high-school and college-age students.
