Rossville

Rossville is a city in Walker County, Georgia, United States. The population was 3,980 at the 2020 census. It is part of the Chattanooga, TNGA Metropolitan Statistical Area. The city was named after Cherokee Indian Chief John Ross, who resided there until being forced to relocate with his people to Oklahoma on the Trail of Tears. The John Ross House, a log cabin, was declared a National Historic Landmark in 1973. U.S. Route 27 connects Rossville to Chattanooga and Fort Oglethorpe. Rossville is located in a broad valley between Missionary Ridge to the east and Lookout Mountain to the west. It has a total area of 1.8 square miles (4.7 km²), all land. History

The city was named after Cherokee Indian Chief John Ross, who resided there until being forced to relocate with his people to Oklahoma on the Trail of Tears. The city incorporated in 1905. The John Ross House, a log cabin, was declared a National Historic Landmark in 1973. A post office has been in operation at Rossville since 1817, and the city has a population of 2,000. The town is located on the banks of the Red River, which flows into the Arkansas River. The Red River runs through the center of the city, and it was once known as the "Red River Valley" The city was founded in 1817 by the Cherokee Indians, who lived there until they were forced to move to Oklahoma in 1838. The name Rossville means "the river valley" in Cherokee, which was then known as "Rossville" The town's name was changed to Rossville in 1820, when a post office was established. It is now known as Rossville, Oklahoma, after the town's first postmaster, who was born in Rossville and moved to the town in 1816. The current post office opened in 1818. The community has a history dating back to 1817 when the town was founded. Peacekeeping Force is based in Rossville and is responsible for protecting the city from terrorist attacks and other acts of terrorism. The town has a population of 2,000, with the majority of its residents living in or near the town of Rossville. It is located on the Tennessee River, which runs through the southern part of the city and into the foothills of the Blue Ridge Mountains to the north and west. It also lies in the Chattahoochee National Forest, which is home to the Chattanooga National Park and the Chickamaugus National Park to the south and the Chattanooga City limits to the northeast. The Rossville-Chattanooga International Airport is located in the city's eastern part. The airport is one of the busiest in the state, with more than 1,000 flights a day. It was built in the 1950s and 1960s as part of a military base that was built to protect the Chattanooga area from the threat of terrorist attacks.
